From Tuesday the 29th of April to Saturday the 3rd of May, the following thirteen members of the North Canterbury Swim Club competed in the 2014 New Zealand Age Group Championships in Wellington : Bryn Atkin, Julie Briden, Tamara Gurden, Callum Haughin, Laura Haughin, Tate Hutchins, Campbell Kershaw, Michael Pitt, Oliver Rayner, Gendi Roberts, William Roberts, Nicholas Steyn and Angus Syme.

Brigitte Mahan from Wai Swim coached these swimmers at this meet and said "for a good number of these swimmers it was the first time they had swum in this meet, there was a high proportion of personal best times achieved and the swimmers really got up in the finals. It was a young team which bodes well for the future."

Competing at this meet there were 664 swimmers representing 78 clubs from all over New Zealand. The North Canterbury Swim Club finished in 24th place out of the 78 clubs.

Apart from long distance events, swimmers swum in heats in the morning and finals in the evening. The top ten swimmers from the heats competed in the finals.

All thirteen swimmers achieved a placing in the top ten in the finals. In total the thirteen swimmers achieved 36 placings in the top ten.

Following are the Individual medal's achieved:

Angus Syme, silver: 1500m freestyle

Oliver Rayner, silver: 50m fly

Gendi Roberts, silver: 800m freestyle

Following are the regional relay results representing Canterbury West Coast:

Gendi Roberts: silver: In the 16 years and over girls freestyle relay

Campbell Kershaw, bronze: In the 16 years and over boys freestyle relay

Bryn Atkin, bronze: In the 15 years and under boys medley relay

14 North Canterbury Long Course Swim Club records were broken.

Angus Syme: 400m and 1500m freestyle

Laura Haughin: 50m, 100m and 200m backstroke

Gendi Roberts: 200m and 800m freestyle

Oliver Rayner: 100m backstroke, 50m and 100m fly

William Roberts: 100m breaststroke and 200m individual medley

Campbell Kershaw: 50m freestyle

Michael Pitt: 200m individual medley

Angus Syme qualified for the Swimming New Zealand Age Group Development Programme and Gendi Roberts was selected in the swimming New Zealand age group camp to go on Outward Bound.
